There are so many little ways that we can make a BIG difference in the lives of people in need. Here are just a few of our favorite ways!
Gospel Bags for the Homeless - Audra's pick
Helping with physical needs is such a wonderful thing to do, but when you can use that to share the Gospel, it becomes a priceless act of love. For these bags we gather everyday hygiene items and snacks that someone who is homeless may need and enjoy. Toothbrushes/toothpaste, deodorant, small bottles of water, crackers... We also add a dollar or two to each bag, as well as a Gospel card. Put the items into a ziplock bag and when you see someone on the side of the road asking for help, give them a bag. After you’ve given a bag, pray for that person to see God’s love through this small act of kindness. Pray that their hearts would be open to the Gospel and that they would be saved!
*Make sure to include the phone number to your church on the back of the gospel card so they can follow up with someone if they have questions.
Serving in the Local Church - Laura's pick
Two and a half years ago the Lord called my husband (Family Pastor) and our family to help start a second location, a multi site, as part of a local church. We began in a school gym, so you can imagine all the set up and tear down that had to take place. If it were not for people with a heart for serving the Lord through their local church, it would have been close to impossible to have the facility ready to receive families each week. The Lord continued to bless and bring families into this new multi site and volunteers were needed to step up and teach, greet, etc. There were so many areas to serve and the Lord provided so many to fill the need! If you are not plugged into a local church, I encourage you to do so. There is such beauty in serving together and it builds unity within the body of believers.
Give Blood (and include your kids) - Rebecca's pick
My girl learned all about the importance of giving blood last year at school. She came home one day and asked if she could go and tell all the neighbors that the Blood Mobile would be in town the next week. Then, she wanted to make a poster for me to put on Facebook so she could encourage my friends to give blood, too.
She got busy with her project, blending in just the right colors to make her sign bright and eye-catching. She proudly presented it to me once she was finished. My heart melted! "Jesus gave blood so you should." I can't think of a better reason than that!
Giving blood is such a small act but it's impact is enormous. Our guest blogger this week received a life-saving blood transfusion during a medical crisis and so have countless others. Including your children in this teachable moment--by spreading the word door-to-door, making signs, having a conversation about the importance of being a donor, or taking them to watch you give blood--will help them understand the importance of both the blood that we give and the blood that Jesus Christ so willingly gave for us.
Jesus Film Harvest Partners - Tammy's pick
The Jesus film is a timeless portrayal of the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. The ministry behind showing the film, Jesus Film Harvest Partners, has been in existence for 20 years. They have translated and shown the Jesus film around the world to countless amount of precious souls, many of them being introduced to Jesus for the first time. And to hear the gospel in their own language?
We love this ministry and truly believe we get the most "bang for our buck." 91% of our gift goes directly into the ministry. The other 9% is for development and administration. Check them out!
Register to Become an Organ Donor - Ashleigh Anne's pick
When Rebecca asked me to take part in this week’s Top 5 I knew exactly what I was going to share. If you know my story you can probably already guess what it is! By far the greatest way someone made a difference in my life was when he/she chose to be an organ donor. Had they not made that choice, I wouldn’t be alive and writing this today—It’s that simple! You too can make that difference in someone’s life by signing the donor registry and choosing to donate LIFE!
Did you know that every 10 minutes another name is added to the national transplant waiting list? On average, 22 people die each day waiting for a life saving organ. One organ donor can save up to 8 lives and enhance the lives of dozens more. My life was spared because of the selfless act of one individual who chose to think beyond themselves and give the ultimate gift. Because of their decision, I get to continue my life as a wife, mommy, daughter, sister, friend and now a fierce advocate for the cause of organ donation. This person is the greatest hero I’ll never know and he/she now lives on within me thanks to God’s amazing grace and the miracle of organ donation.
April is National Donate Life Month and what better time to sign up to MAKE A DIFFERENCE than now?? Your decision today could determine someone else’s tomorrow.
