My challenge to each of you is to write out your testimony and share it on your Facebook page. Tag us so we can see it, too! Let us not be ashamed of the Good News of Jesus!
First things first, let's define what a testimony is. The word testimony is a statement or declaration of a witness. Everyone has a testimony about their life, whether good or bad. But, each person who has chosen to become a Christian has a personal testimony of their salvation. So when we talk of sharing your testimony, it means declaring what Jesus has done in your life. This can be the story about the day you chose to become a Christ follower or a story of how knowing Jesus has changed your life since then.
I will be the first to admit, sharing your testimony with someone can be intimidating. But, let's see if we can take a little of the scariness out of it by making a plan. The point to sharing your story of faith with others is so they can see the hope you have in Jesus and hopefully choose to trust in Him too. Why do we care if other people know about Him? This is very simple: God calls us to 1. love others (Mark 12:31), and 2. tell them about Him. (Matt.28:19-20)
If we truly love others, then we will want them to know that salvation comes through Jesus.
We will want them to live their lives with Him by their side and die spending eternity with Him in heaven. If we have the answer to the worlds greatest problem, which is sin, then its only right that we share it with others! The Bible says that The wages of sin is what? Spiritual DEATH! Separation from God eternally. BUT, it goes on to say that “The gift of God is ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ.” (Romans 6:23)
So, let's get started! I encourage you to write or type this out.
Sharing the story of how you became a Christian:
First~ write a paragraph or so about what your life was like before you became a Christian. You don’t have to give specific details about sin, but a summary so it will be obvious how your life has changed.
Next~ tell how you first came to hear about Jesus. Give details about your thought process on deciding if this was something you would believe or not. Did you reject Christ at first or did you immediately say, "YES?" Did you understand it in your head, but not accept it in your heart, or was it an immediate heart transformation? Who told you this great news? Where were you? Do you remember how old you were? These are all great details that will help tell your story.
Lastly~ wrap up your story with some information about how Christ has changed your life. Has He helped you kick sin you were entangled in before? Has he given you joy that you did not have before? How does your life look different now that you follow Jesus? Following Christ is not always easy. What are some things that have been difficult for you? Did you lose friends or have to give up sinful habits?
If you can write the first two paragraphs but find that you don’t notice much change in your life to write about in paragraph 3, consider two things:
1. You believed in your head that Jesus was God’s Son and that He died for you, but you didn’t have a heart transformation and truly give your life over to follow God completely.
(Read Matthew 13:1-8 & the explanation in Matthew 13:18-23)
2. You haven’t grown in your spiritual life.
Read a quote below from Billy Graham:
He said, “Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion. It is a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ. When you start out, you start out as a baby. You must be fed on the simple things of the Bible, and you learn to walk in your Christian life gradually. At first, you will fall down and make many mistakes, but you are to continue growing. However, there are many people who have stopped growing. They remain spiritual babes all their lives. I am afraid that this experience is all too common today. Perhaps it is yours.
Do you remember the day when you gave your heart and life to Christ? You were sure of victory. How easy it seemed to be more than conqueror through Christ who loved you. Thousands of Christians have struggles with themselves. The great need in Christendom today is for Christians to learn the secret of daily victory over sin.”

Now that you have written out your testimony of how Jesus saved you, read over it and make any changes that are necessary to make it flow well into a conversation. Ask a friend or loved one to listen as you read it to them. Get comfortable sharing it with people you trust so soon you can begin to share it with others who do not know Jesus as you do.
Who should you share your story with? Family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers…anyone the Lord gives you the opportunity to share with!
Keep in mind that it is not your job to make someone else believe. It is your job to tell them, to give them a reason for the hope you have, to share your story. But only the Holy Spirit can convict of sin and bring others to true repentance, and therefore a saving relationship with God through Jesus!
Again, my challenge to each of you is to write your testimony and share it on your Facebook page. Tag us so we can see it too! Let us not be ashamed of the Good News of Jesus! I will be sharing mine HERE next week!
